Swiss developers Fookes Software continue to provide one of the best and oldest Notepad replacements around, with their award-winning NoteTab Lite. But what if you need a little more power? For about $20 and $30 respectively, Fookes offers both Standard and Pro versions, depending on whether you need extras like a thesaurus and spell-checking, clipbars, customizable shortcuts, text-outline editing, or--in the case of NoteTab Pro--plenty of HTML support, regex search and replace, and the ability to program in your own features. The scripting language in Pro can even make this app a replacement for a wide variety of utilities, with almost endless possibilities for tweaking that let you use NoteTab for tasks like formatting e-mail or cleaning up MS Word HTML conversions.
