Download Self-Extracting Archive Utility 17 Free
Self-Extracting Archive Utility might still be a mouthful, but it does what it says it does--even at venerable version number 17. Since we last checked in with SEAU, this app has added a bunch of improvements, from interface tweaks to support for 64-bit apps, but its core functionality remains the same: helping you create reliable, extremely compact, self-contained, single-file installers for your software. You get tightly packed data (SEAU uses a only adds 109K of overhead), plus you get the added bonus of supporting old-school shareware developers. (Who else would unabashedly make foo and "Micro$oft" references in their FAQ?)

Download Unifier 4 FreeWhen politicians talk about "unifying," you can never be sure if that's a serious sentiment or just more empty rhetoric. Thankfully, the app Unifier delivers on its much more modest unifying promise: not to bring people together, but to convert plain text or HTML to Unicode. This straightforward, affordable tool can convert to (and between) UTF-8 and UTF-16, and it can handle batch conversions and unattended (i.e., command line) mode. Unifier has an easy-to-use, drag-and-drop interface, with easy controls for setting target formats and source encoding. This app also give you multiple output options (including overwriting of the original files, appending a new filename prefix, and writing to a specified folder), and a summary report lets you know if any conversions weren't successful.

NCache 3.2.2If you think data-caching might help boost performance in your .NET app, you might consider brewing up your own caching solution. But do you really have the time and/or specialized expertise to handle all the complicated potential scenarios involved? NCache is a scalable, intelligent distributed-object cache that can bring you that performance bump without putting a drag on your own development resources. NCache has only gotten better since we last checked in, with version 3.2 adding a new SessionState edition (providing clustered session implementations), along with new support for TCP-based clusters, automatic reloading of expired objects, row-based dependency to SQL Server 2000 and 2005, and .NET 2.0.
